8 types of lighting distribution principles

Reasonable Lighting distribution plays a vital role in improving the quality and comfort of your home. It not only creates a harmonious environment but also enhances the happiness of life.

So, let's know the eight types of lighting distribution principles.

1. There can't be only one type of lighting

Using a single light source (such as a chandelier or ceiling light) often fails to evenly illuminate the entire room, resulting in insufficient or excessive light in some areas. This not only affects visual comfort but can also cause shadows and dark areas that affect daily activities. Different regions and activities in the home require different lighting methods.

So, we need to use ambient light, contour light, and focus light to Illuminate the space, highlight the layers, and emphasize the details.

2. Ambient light

This is the most common light source in the room. It has a wide coverage and can set the overall atmosphere of the space. It does not need to be too bright; too bright is not good-looking and consumes electricity. Examples include LED ceiling lamps, chandeliers, magnetic LED track lights, etc.

3. Contour light

Brightens key areas and is used to highlight the outline or layering of objects, such as LED strip lights, downlights, floor lamps, table lamps, etc. Arrange according to living habits, such as floor lamps and table lamps

It is best to use lamps with replaceable bulbs. If the light is not suitable, you can replace the bulb, which is simple and convenient.

4. Focus light

The lighting range is small, but supplementary lighting, such as LED spotlights and LED track lights, highlights specific objects and adds an artistic sense.

5. Lighting distribution

Everyone has different preferences; there is no unified standard.

You can refer to some design plans to distribution your room.

6. The distance between lamps

For LED track lights, the distance from the wall must be greater than 50cm, and the distance between two track lights is about 20-30cm to avoid light spot faults and maintain the integrity of the light.

For LED downlights, the distance from the wall is about 15-25cm, and the distance between the two lamps is 80-120cm so that there will be no dark areas and no glare.

7. Make sure the light falls on the object being illuminated, not on the eyes.

People in the house are basically at eye level. The most important range is 20° above and below the eye level, a total of 40°. This range is bright enough, visually comfortable, and harmonious with the surrounding light and dark contrast. Reasonable design of lighting to reduce glare.

8. The larger the proportion of active lighting, the better.

Activity lighting, such as adjusting the lighting angle of LED downlights, floor lights, table lights, etc., with a dimmable or 3CCT function, allows you to adjust the position, brightness, and color temperature of lamps at any time as needed to adapt to different activities and scenes. By changing the lights in a home environment, you can create a romantic, warm, or peaceful atmosphere.

‌Energy saving and comfort‌: Activity lighting can be automatically managed through an intelligent control system to reduce unnecessary energy consumption.

‌Enhance the sense of spatial hierarchy‌: Dynamic lighting can enhance the sense of hierarchy and interest in space by controlling the brightness, color, and direction of the light source.

lighting distribution
In short, at least three types of lighting methods, ambient light, contour light, and focus light, are needed to illuminate the space, highlight the levels, and emphasize the parts of the home. Other principles of lighting distribution are lighting the wall, lighting the cabinet, and lighting the painting; controlling the distance; designing the light to reduce the glare; and supplementing the active lighting in the functional area.
